Suns Top 300,000 Fan Mark for Fifth Consecutive Season
August 1, 2007 - Southern League (SL1)
Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
Jacksonville, FLA - The Jacksonville Suns have surpassed the 300,000 mark in attendance this season, marking the fifth consecutive year the team has reached that mark.
Through 54 openings this season, the Suns have drawn 311,079 fans to the Baseball Grounds, averaging 5,761 per game. That puts the Suns at the top of the Southern League and are on pace to lead the circuit in attendance. The Suns' attendance numbers have been the best in the Southern League since the Baseball Grounds opened in 2003.
The Suns also currently rank sixth in all of Double-A Baseball in attendance with the Frisco RoughRiders setting the pace at that level with 435,231 fans through the turnstiles this season.
"To reach this mark so quickly in our fifth season at the Baseball Grounds is truly a testament to our fans and their continued support of the Suns," said General Manager Kirk Goodman. "We will continue to do our best to provide the most affordable family entertainment possible and give our fans the best value for their sports dollar."
Considering all baseball events held at the Baseball Grounds this season, including the record-setting Florida/Florida State game in early-April, the ACC Championship and a full schedule of high school games, the ballpark itself has seen 384,894 fans come through the gates.
The Suns are on pace to welcome the team's 2,000,000th fan to the Baseball Grounds early in the 2008 season. Plans to celebrate that milestone are in development.
The Suns are currently in a heated race for the final South Division playoff spot and will return to the Baseball Grounds on Wednesday, August 8 to host the Carolina Mudcats in a five game series.
Tickets for all five games, which will include Thursday Night Throwdown, Used Car Night and Fireworks on Friday, a Nolan Ryan Jersey Pencil Holder giveaway on Saturday and the Dog Days of Summer on Sunday, are currently on sale at the Baseball Grounds ticket office, by calling (904) 358-2846 and online at www.jaxsuns.com.
