Suns Take Pitchers' Duel

Mississippi Braves News Release

GREENVILLE, SC - Jason Repko went 3-4 with a triple and three runs scored to lead the Jacksonville Suns to a 4-3 victory over the Greenville Braves Monday night at Greenville Municipal Stadium. Jacksonville starter Edwin Jackson (7-6) went seven innings and struck out nine to earn the win.

The Suns got three first inning singles and a sacrifice fly to claim an early 1-0 off of starter Adam Wainwright. In the fourth, Tarrik Brock uncorked a mammoth blast to right-center for his tenth homerun of the year and a two run advantage.

For the second time in the series, the old Municipal Stadium lighting cost the G-Braves a run in the fifth inning. In a play that was almost identical to Saturday night's fifth-frame debacle in which Brock ended up with a triple on what should have been a routine play for center fielder Charles Thomas, Repko lifted a ball to deep center that Thomas could not pick up and Repko ended up at third. Repko would score on a Nick Theodorou sacrifice fly.

Greenville finally got to Jackson in the bottom of the fifth. Richard Lewis drew a one-out walk and went to second on a Bryon Jeffcoat single. J.C. Boscan then singled to load the bases. Lewis would score on a pasted ball and Wainwright struck out swinging. Thomas stepped to the plate riding a G-Brave season high 16-game hitting streak and flared a 1-0 pitch through the left side to tie the game at three.

Jacksonville claimed the lead with an unearned run the eighth. Repko hit a slow roller to third that Ramon Castro fielded cleanly but threw wildly to allow the runner to reach second. Repko was sacrificed to third and scored on a Willie Collazo (5-2) wild pitch.

Jason Frasor pitched the ninth for his eleventh save of the season.
