Suns Take Early Lead to Hold Off Power

The Hagerstown Suns (5-7, 41-41) took a big early lead against the West Virginia Power (3-9, 34-48) and managed to come out victorious 9-7.

Hagerstown came out strong in the bottom of the second as JP Ramirez singled to left. Eury Perez put the first tally on the board driving in Ramirez with a single. With Sandy Leon on base from a force out, Jeff Kobernus doubled bringing in Leon and Perez. Next up to bat was Steven Souza who hit a three run homerun scoring Kobernus and Soriano. Suns made it 8-0 after Ramirez doubled to center bringing in Justin Bloxom who was on base after a single.

The Suns made it 9-0 in the bottom of the third after a double by Kobernus who reached on a single.

West Virginia tried to answer back in the top of the fourth. With Jose Hernandez on first after a single and Jesus Brito on second after being walked, Elevys Gonzalez drove them both in with a double making the score 9-2.

In the top of the eighth, the Power had an extra boost scoring five runs after the Suns switched pitchers three times. The momentum changer was a triple by David Rubinstein driving in two runs.

The Suns pitching held off the Powers momentum as Dean Weaver came in for the save in ninth giving up zero runs. Hagerstown was victorious 9-7.

The starting pitcher for Hagerstown Paul Applebee pitched four innings giving up two runs with five strikeouts. Ben Graham (1-0) got the win coming in for the fifth pitching three innings with three strikeouts. Patrick Arnold and Shane Erb both pitched the bottom of the eighth. Rob Wort got the hold coming in late in the eighth. Dean Weaver got the save coming in the top of the ninth giving up zero runs.

The starting pitcher for the Power Jason Erickson (5-5) got the loss pitching into the second inning giving up seven runs. Maurice Bankston came in during the second and gave up two runs. Eliecer Navarro came in bottom of the fifth with two strikeouts. Coming in the bottom of the eighth was Marc Baca giving up only one hit.
