Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Craig Tatum went three-for-five with a homerun and six RBI, while starter Sam LeCure scattered five hits over seven scoreless innings as the Chattanooga Lookouts (41-39, 4-6) led throughout in a 16-0 victory over the Jacksonville Suns (38-42, 5-5) in front of 6,897 Friday night at the Baseball Grounds.
The loss was Jacksonville's worst of the 2008 season, with the most runs scored by any Suns opponent. Chattanooga scored in every inning except the second and third. The win was Chattanooga's first in the six-game series, following three consecutive Jacksonville victories.
Sam LeCure, in his second season with Chattanooga, had won three of his previous four outings entering Friday. LeCure kept the Suns batters off balance, scattering five hits over his seven innings of work while walking only one with six strikeouts.
Chattanooga scored three runs with two out in the first inning against Suns starter Jesus Rodriguez, who was making his Double-A debut after a recent promotion from High-A Inland Empire. Shaun Cumberland singled home a run before Craig Tatum's single plated two more runs for a 3-0 Lookouts lead.
The Lookouts added two more against Rodriguez as Tonys Gutierrez singled home a run in the fourth inning before a Justin Turner solo homerun in the fifth made it 5-0 Chattanooga. Rodriguez left after allowing five runs, six hits and three walks with two strikeouts over five innings.
Jacksonville brought reliever Edwardo Sierra into the game for the sixth inning, with Chattanooga pitcher Sam LeCure doubling in a run and Sean Henry extending his hitting streak to 13 games with an RBI single for a 7-0 Lookouts lead.
Brent Leach entered the game for the Suns in the seventh inning, allowing an RBI single from Craig Tatum for an 8-0 Chattanooga advantage. Outfielder Danny Dorn smashed a two-out, solo homerun off Leach in the eighth inning to open the lead to 9-0.
Suns infielder Aldolfo Gonzalez came to the mound for the ninth inning, allowing back-to-back singles and a Craig Tatum three-run homerun to start the inning for a 12-0 lead. After a fly out, a force out, an error and two hit batsmen to load the bases, Eric Eymann smashed a grand slam homerun with two out to end the scoring at 16-0.
Sam LeCure (7-4) picked up the win for Chattanooga while Jesus Rodriguez (0-1) fell in the loss for the Suns.
Suns LH Cody White will face Lookouts RH Jordan Smith Saturday night at 7:05 in game five of the series at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. Saturday is Southern Rock Night, and the Suns will wear special Southern Rock-themed jerseys that will be auctioned off during the game. Following the game the Lizard Skinners will perform an on-field concert. In addition, the first 1,500 in attendance will receive a replica home cap, sponsored by Jiffy Lube.
