BayBears Smack Five Homers in Pounding of Biscuits

MOBILE, Ala. - For the first time all season, the BayBears won a Friday night home game as they creamed the Montgomery Biscuits 12-8 in a Hank Aaron Stadium slugfest with six home runs in the ballgame including five from the home team.
Rusty Ryal started the derby with a solo homer in the second to put the BayBears (33-47, 4-6) on top. Later in the inning, Frank Curreri jacked a three-run blast to give the BayBears a four-run cushion. J.T. Hall answered in the third with a solo shot, and the Biscuits (37-43, 3-7) tied the game in the fifth with three runs on a two-run double by Chris Nowak and RBI single by Gaby Martinez.
"The Hank" turned into a launching pad in the bottom of the fifth as Bryan Byrne broke a 4-4 tie with his two-run homer which was followed by Gerardo Parra's inside-the-park tater. After an argument by Biscuits skipper Billy Gardner, Jr. on whether or not Parra's ball should have been a ground-rule double, Ryal punched out his second dinger of the contest to give the BayBears an 8-4 lead.
Montgomery got closer with two in the sixth but a four-run eighth pushed the BayBear lead beyond the Biscuits' reach despite another two tallies in the ninth against Jose Marte (S, 1). Hector Ambriz (5-9) worked 5.1 innings for the BayBears while Jeremy Hellickson (0-1) was responsible for all five gopher balls in his Double-A debut. The series resumes on Saturday night at 7:05 with Cesar Valdez getting the ball in his first BayBear outing.
With the Fourth of July weekend just around the corner, the BayBears are offering three nights of fireworks at "The Hank." On Thursday, July 3, the Mayor's Cup between the Mobile Police and Fire Departments will be decided at Hank Aaron Stadium. BEAR CLAWS - The back-to-back home runs in the fifth were the first of its kind for the BayBears this season. - Ryal reached two homers in a game for the second time this year with the first coming last Friday in Tennessee. - Friday's contest was played in front of a sellout crowd with 6,011 people including Oakland Raiders QB and Mobile native JaMarcus Russell in the house.
