Eddie Morlan chosen for All-Star Futures Game Morlan's native Cuba, one of ten countries representing the World

MONTGOMERY - Biscuits reliever Eddie Morlan was selected to play in the annual All-Star Futures Game, July 13 at Yankee Stadium.

Morlan, a current Miami resident, will represent Cuba as part of the 2008 World Team. The international squad features 27 players from ten different countries. Morlan was the lone Cuban chosen for the team.

Morlan is 0-0 with 5.25 ERA in ten relief appearances for the Biscuits in 2008. However, five of the seven earned runs Morlan gave up, came in one poor outing. He has struck out eight and walked two in 12 innings pitched. The 6'2" right hander missed the entire month of May and the first two weeks in June on the disabled list after experiencing shoulder soreness in late April.

Tampa Bay acquired Morlan as part of the six-player deal that sent Delmon Young to the Twins and Matt Garza to the Rays in the off-season. He played most of 2007 with the Ft. Myers Miracle (A-Advanced - Florida State League). In Ft. Myers, Morlan recorded 18 saves in 23 opportunities while posting a 4-3 record and 3.15 ERA. In 65 and 2/3 innings he struck out 92 and walked just 17.

Six other Southern Leaguers will join Morlan in New York. Matt Gamel, Matt LaPorta and Chris Valaika with play for Team USA. Morlan will be accompanied by Jesus Delgado, Ivan DeJesus and Gerardo Parra on the World side.
