Asheville Tourists News Release

Asheville, NC-- The Asheville Tourists trailed from the very start Wednesday night against the Hagerstown Suns but kept it close throughout. Asheville fell by a final score of 3-2 despite an impressive ninth inning rally.

Trailing 3-1 heading into their last turn at-bat, Ryan McMahon belted a solo Home Run over the right field wall to cut the Suns lead to one. With two outs and no one aboard, Jordan Patterson laced a double to the right-centerfield gap which put the tying run in scoring position.

Hagerstown elected to intentionally walk Jose Briceno, who homered the night before, thus putting the winning run on base. The Suns brought in reliever David Napoli to pitch to Max White and Napoli induced a game-ending groundout.

The visitors plated a critical insurance run in the top of the ninth inning when Drew Ward tripled home Spencer Kieboom. Prior to Ward's RBI, the score was stuck at 2-1 for quite some time.

Hagerstown took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on Kieboom's RBI double off the wall. In the second, Jimmy Yezzo launched a solo Home Run making it 2-0. Asheville managed an unearned run in the fourth when Rafael Bautista misplayed a Patterson single, which allowed McMahon to score from second.

Johendi Jiminian took a tough luck loss for the Tourists. Jiminian worked seven innings, allowed just two runs on five hits, and struck out six. Wander Suero took the win for the Suns by working six frames and limiting Asheville's offense to just three hits.

The Tourists entertain the Suns on Thursday night for the homestand and regular season home finale. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
