GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Suns nearly relinquished a nine-run lead in a 9-8 victory over the Greenville Braves in front of 2,389 fans Thursday at Municipal Stadium.

After the Suns led 9-0 in the sixth inning, the Braves scored eight unanswered runs and stranded the tying run at third in the ninth. Suns closer Jason Frasor gave up two runs in the eighth inning but struck out James Jurries and Jason Fitzgerald who were the go-ahead runs. Frasor delivered the second pitch of the ninth inning which Cory Aldridge launched over the right field wall. He followed by walking Bill McCarthy who moved to second on a sacrifice and tagged to third with two outs. Frasor got Bryce Terveen to groundout to end the game. Terveen and Charles Thomas led the Braves (47-53 overall, 11-21 second half) with three hits each.

The Suns (49-53, 18-15) built a large lead early against Braves starter and losing pitcher Chris Waters (3-4). After Jacksonville scored twice in the first and once in the second, the Suns posted four runs and six hits off Waters in the third. In the inning, Reggie Abercrombie tripled in a run and Nick Alvarez blasted a Waters offering over the 36-foot-high triple-deck billboards in left field. Alvarez had a season-high four RBI and Abercrombie had three hits, a home run shy of the cycle.

Alvarez' two-run double off Braves reliever Ray Aguilar in the sixth inning gave the Suns a 9-0 advantage and proved to be the difference.

Suns starter Heath Totten (8-9) won his fifth consecutive decision, allowing one earned run over six innings. He allowed three runs – two unearned – in the sixth inning after not permitting a runner past first base in the first five innings.

Right-hander Joel Hanrahan (9-4, 2.40 ERA) is scheduled to face Braves righty Adam Wainwright (5-7, 3.93) at 7:15 p.m. Thursday at Municipal Stadium.
