Huntsville Stars News Release

Huntsville, AL - Milwaukee has promoted its top prospect to Huntsville. First baseman/outfielder Brad Nelson leaves High Desert to join Huntsville on Thursday night at Joe Davis Stadium. Stars pitcher Luis Martinez and infielder Richard Paz are headed to triple-A Indianapolis, and outfielder Daryl Clark was transferred back to High Desert. Right-handed pitcher Dave Nolasco also joins Huntsville from High Desert.

Nelson played in 40 games for the high-A Mavericks before his promotion, batting .315 with nine doubles, one homer and 16 runs batted in. Nelson battled through injury trouble that kept him out of action from April 12-June 14. Nolasco was 3-5 with a 5.44 earned run average High Desert. He made 21 appearances, seven as a starter.

Martinez, pitching for a third season in Huntsville, was a Southern League all-star and heads to Indianapolis after an outstanding double-A season. He went 8-5 with a 2.58 earned run average and a league-best 116 strikeouts.

Paz had been productive in his first season with Milwaukee. He was second in the Southern League in on-base percentage (.406) and led the Stars in walks (58) while striking out only 36 times in 228 at-bats.

Individual game tickets, season ticket packages, playoff tickets, group outings, picnics and promotional opportunities are available for all remaining Stars home games. For further information, call the Stars at (256) 882-2562, or stop by the Stars office at Joe Davis Stadium.
