July 24, 2003 - Southern League (SL1)
Huntsville Stars News Release
Hunsville, AL â A former Star continued to haunt his old teammates on Thursday night. Bucky Jacobsen recorded his second straight multi-hit game, going 3-for-5 with a towering homerun, in Tennessee's 8-2 win over Huntsville at Joe Davis Stadium. The Stars (16-15, 56-43) remained one-half game out in the Southern League West second-half race.
After four seasons in Huntsville, Bucky Jacobsen has flourished with the Smokies this season. His monster sixth-inning homer to left was his league-best 21st of the season. After going 0-4 in Tuesday's series opener, Jacobsen is 5-for-8 in the last two games, both Tennessee victories, with three runs batted in and two runs scored.
Papo Bolivar remained hot for Tennessee, finishing 3-for-3 with a triple, two singles, one run batted in and one run scored. Bolivar is a torrid 7-for-11 in the series. Al Benjamin launched his third homerun of the season, a two-run shot in the fifth that snapped a 2-2 tie, and Tennessee never looked back, scoring in five straight innings from the fourth through the eighth.
Huntsville's Corey Hart recorded his third multi-hit game in a row, finishing 2-for-4 with a double and one run scored. Ryan Gripp went 2-for-4 with two singles and one run batted in. Brad Nelson, Milwaukee's top-rated prospect, was 0-for-4 in his Stars debut.
Chris Narveson (3-0) notched his third win for Tennessee in his first appearance against the Stars, permitting two unearned runs on four hits and five walks while fanning three over six innings. Matt Parker (6-5) suffered his fifth loss in a spot start, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks with five strikeouts in six frames.
The series concludes Friday night at Joe Davis Stadium. Stars lefty Jeff Housman (1-0, 0.00) meets Smokies righty Julio Villalon (4-1, 1.99). Game time is 7:05 p.m. Myron Noodleman entertains fans throughout the night, and a fireworks spectacular follows the game.
