
Suns Shutout in Series Finale on Thursday

Hagerstown, MD - The Hagerstown Suns were held to three hits in a shutout by the Lakewood BlueClaws on Thursday night at Hagerstown Municipal Stadium in a 4-0 loss. The Suns fall to 6-15 overall and will start a three-game weekend series against the Rome Braves on Friday with a 6:05 PM first pitch.
Suns starter Jackson Stoeckinger retired the first 10 BlueClaws he faced, but Lakewood scratched across a pair of runs in the fourth inning. With one out, Nick Maton singled over the glove of Jack Sundberg in center field and Jake Scheiner singled to center, putting runners at the corners. Quincy Nieporte singled to right, scoring Maton to give the BlueClaws a 1-0 lead. With two outs, Rodolpho Duran drove in Schiener to extend Lakewood's lead to 2-0.
Lakewood tacked on a pair of runs in the sixth against Stoeckinger. Maton was hit by a pitch and went to second on a passed ball, scoring when Scheiner doubled to center to make it a 3-0 BlueClaws lead. Nieporte grounded into a fielder's choice at short with Yasel Antuna throwing out Schiener at third for the first out of the inning. Colby Fitch doubled to right, moving Nieporte to third and scored when Duran hit a sacrifice fly to make it a 4-0 Lakewood lead. The collected one hit through the rest of the game, but fell 4-0 in their 15th loss of the season.
Stoeckinger (0-2) threw six innings in the loss, allowing four runs on six hits with two strikeouts. Ben Braymer threw three innings with one hit and a strikeout.
Notes: Cole Freeman has a three-game hit streak... Stoeckinger's six innings of work is a new career-high... He hasn't allowed a walk in 2018 over four games... Boggetto failed to get a hit in a game for the first time this week after he was 7-for-7 heading into Thursday night's contest... It also ended his three-game hit streak... Luis Garcia's five-game hit streak ended... The Suns were shut out for the second time in two days, with the other being in game-one of the double header on Wednesday... It's the fewest runs the team has scored in a nine-inning contest this season... The Suns left four runners on base, the lowest total of the season... The Suns begin a three-game series with the Rome Braves on Friday at Hagerstown Municipal Stadium with a 6:05 PM first pitch...
