Dogs Walk off for Second Time in Series Win over Columbia

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Oswaldo Cabrera's RBI knock in the bottom of the ninth provided the RiverDogs their second walk-off victory over Columbia in three nights, 3-2, claiming the four-game series win in front of a crowd of 4,322 at The Joe on Thursday.

Charleston (10-11) got another multi-hit night from Jason Lopez, his third straight, as the catcher reached to begin the bottom of the ninth. After third baseman David Metzgar advanced Lopez to scoring position with a single, Cabrera ripped a 1-0 pitch from Nicolas Debora (1-1) into right field for the game-winner before being mobbed by his teammates on the infield.

For the second straight game, eight Holy City hitters collected hits against Columbia (12-9) pitchers. Charleston's 11 hits tied for the second most this season, a night after setting a season-high with 14.

Former Citadel pitcher JP Sears made his Riley Park debut as a professional. The 22-year-old lefty, recently off the disabled list, pitched into the fourth inning, surrendering one run on a hit. Six of the nine Fireflies Sears retired were via the strikeout.

Sears was relieved by Braden Bristo who threw a wild pitch scoring an inherited run from the starter. Bristo threw three hitless innings, racking up three punchouts.

RiverDogs pitcher Brian Trieglaff (2-1) suffered his second blown save but was credited with the win, allowing merely an unearned run over the final three innings.

With the walk-off, Charleston has now played 13 one-run games in its first 21 contests, the most of any South Atlantic League team.

Charleston, now 10-11, has an opportunity to get back to .500 on Friday against league-worst Greenville (3-18).

Ballpark Fun

Thursday was like, literally, the best night ever as the Dogs held "Basic Night" at The Joe. Taylor Swift hits, pumpkin spice drinks and food, avocado toast and Snapchat-filtered headshots had the crowd saying "OMG" all night long. Not-so-coincidentally, it was also a Budweiser Thirsty Thursday presented by 95SX in the Budweiser Ashley View Pub, and there was a totes Instagram worthy sunset beyond right field.

The RiverDogs can get back to .500 on Friday when they hit the road against the Drive, the Class A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. Righty Daniel Ramos (2-1, 5.84) will square off against Greenville right-hander Alex Scherff (0-3, 10.22). The game will be broadcast on WTMA 1250 AM in the tri-county area with online streaming audio also available worldwide on riverdogs.com, and through the RiverDogs TuneIn radio app.
