Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
HAGERSTOWN, MD - Alex Dunlap scored four runs while Gage Canning had three hits including a home run as Hagerstown used a five run first en route to a 14-2 win over the BlueClaws on Friday night at Municipal Stadium.
Lakewood (17-10/58-38) had won seven of eight coming into the action Friday, but Hagerstown (9-18/36-59) handed the BlueClaws their biggest loss since a 14-0 loss to Hickory on July 28th of last year.
Hagerstown scored five times in the first inning highlighted by an RBI double from Alex Dunlap and a two-run single from Kameron Esthay. They sent nine men to the plate in the first, and then sent 11 to the plate in the second, when they scored five more. Gage Canning's RBI single chased starter Damon Jones. Ismael Cabrera came on and was charged with two of the five when Paul Panaccione singled in a pair to put the Suns up 10-1.
Jones (7-4) was charged with eight runs in one inning, the most runs/earned runs allowed by a BlueClaws starter this year in what was the second one-inning start by a Lakewood pitcher.
Cabrera allowed two more runs in the third, including a lead-off home run to Canning, and was charged with four runs, three earned, in two innings of work.
Hagerstown added runs in the fifth off Luis Cedeno and in the seventh off Tyler Fallwell en route to their 14-2 win.
The 14 runs were the most allowed by the BlueClaws this year, and just the second time they've allowed double-digits. Additionally, Lakewood pitchers walked 11 Suns hitters, just one off of the franchise record of 12 set in 2013, also at Hagerstown.
Dunlap's four runs scored tied the most runs scored by a BlueClaws opponent in team history, becoming the 10th to cross the plate four times.
Each Suns starter had a hit, led by three from Canning, who hit the game's lone home run.
Malvin Pena (2-0) gave up two runs, one earned, in six innings to earn his second win of the season.
Simon Muzziotti had two hits for the BlueClaws.
The teams continue their series on Saturday night at 6:05 pm. RHP Andrew Brown (3-1) starts for Lakewood opposite RHP Brigham Hill (1-3).
