JACKSONVILLE, Fla. â The Jacksonville Suns return to the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville on Tuesday, August 12 for the team's last homestand of the 2003 regular season. The Suns will welcome the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx (Chicago Cubs), Tennessee Smokies (St. Louis Cardinals) and Greenville Braves (Atlanta Braves) to the Baseball Grounds for four games against each team.
The homestand is highlighted by a number of great promotions. The Suns will host two Thursday Night Throwdowns during the homestand, August 14 and 21. Buds are only a buck on these Thursday games, sponsored by Budweiser and Planet Radio.
Friday, August 15 will be the last Businessperson's Special and day game of the season. Bubba, The Love Sponge, star of one of the top-rated radio shows in Jacksonville, will be at the Grounds to throw out the first pitch and meet his fans. Game time is 1:05 p.m. and fans can get a box seat, hot dog and large beverage of choice for only $12.50.
On Saturday, August 16, the first 2,000 fans will get a free bobblehead doll of Winn Dixie's Chef Robert, sponsored by Winn Dixie, First Coast News 12 & 25 and WAPE 95.1 FM. It's also Peter Piper Pickles Night. The Pickleman will be in the crowd and there will be lots of great prizes for pickle lovers!
The following Sunday will be the Suns annual Hit, Run and Throw Contest, sponsored by AM930 The Fox and Clorox. Young athletes, ages 6-14, will be invited on the field at 4:00 p.m. to test their baseball skills for great prizes to be awarded to different age categories. Also on Sunday, fans can get a $5.00 ticket discount by bringing a Clorox proof of purchase to the ticket window and all kids will get to run the bases after the game, courtesy of Peter Piper's Pickles.
Due to kids heading back to school, the Suns will play at 6:05 p.m. on Sunday, August 17, Monday, August 18 and Tuesday, August 19. These special game times give kids a chance to see a few more Suns games before the season is over and still get home in time to get to bed early and be ready for school the next day.
The next week will be highlighted by Strike Out Crime Night on Friday, August 22. The Police and Fireman will do battle in a baseball game, starting at 4:00 p.m., before the Suns game at 7:35 p.m. During the game, the always popular BirdZerk will entertain during the game. This game will also feature the last Friday Family Fireworks of the season, brought to you by NAPA Auto Parts and your local NAPA Autocare Center Dealers.
The Suns wrap up the 2003 regular season on Saturday, August 23 with a Home Cap Giveaway from Benjamin Moore Paints and Fox 30. The first 2,000 fans will receive a free Suns home cap and it's also Fan Appreciation Night. Hundreds of prizes will be given away during the game as the Suns say "Thank You" to the fans that supported the team all season and helped shatter the all-time Jacksonville baseball attendance record.
