Greenville, SC.â Orlando pounded out 14 hits as the Rays out slugged the Greenville Braves 10-8 win at Greenville Municipal Stadium Tuesday.
The Rays (19-24, 50-62 overall) jumped to an early 3-0 lead in the first as the first five Orlando hitters reached base, with Juan Salas, John-Paul Davis and Jesus Feliciano each picking up RBI. B.J. Upton extended Orlando's lead to 4-0 in the second when he launched a solo home run to right-center. Upton's blast was his first since joining the O-Rays on August 1.
Orlando used six pitchers on the night, with Derek Andersen (W, 1-1) and John Benedetti combining on nearly three innings of scoreless relief. Andersen tossed two perfect innings, striking out one while Benedetti went 0.2 innings, allowing just one walk.
Every Orlando starter had at least one hit and either scored a run or had a RBI, with Salas leading the charge with a 3-5 effort that included two RBI and a run scored. Feliciano went 2-4 with two doubles, three RBI and scored once, while Upton finished the night 2-5 with a homer, two runs and a RBI. Jace Brewer added his fourth home run of the season in a 1-3 night for the Rays.
Orlando and Greenville continue the four-game series tomorrow at 7:15, with the Rays sending righty Jose Veras (6-8, 3.38) to the mound to face Braves RHP Adam Wainwright (6-7, 3.77).
