Mississippi Braves News Release
GREENVILLE, SC -- With 10 runs on 14 hits and six different pitchers seeing action, the Orlando Rays made it an exceptionally long night for the Greenville Braves as the Rays took a 10-8 decision over the G-Braves Tuesday night at Greenville Municipal Stadium. The 3:28 game time was the longest 9-inning contest of the year for Greenville as Orlando captured game two of the four game set.
The first five batters that came to the plate against G-Braves starter Chris Waters (3-6) reached base as the Rays scored three first inning runs. Juan Salas, John-Paul Davis, and Jesus Feliciano all picked up RBIs.
In the second frame, 18 year-old B.J. Upton hit an opposite field homerun to right for a 4-0 Orlando lead.
The G-Braves got on the board in the bottom half of the second off of Rays starter Chris Flinn when the Orlando infield conceded a run in order to get Ramon Castro on a groundout at first.
Orlando tallied another run in the fourth on Jace Brewer's fourth homerun of the year. But the G-Braves responded with three runs of their own highlighted by a two-run triple from Charles Thomas that he attempted to stretch into an inside-the-park homerun to no avail.
The Rays extended their lead with a pair of runs in the fifth to make it 7-4, and once again Greenville answered. Jason Fitzgerald led off with a triple down the right field line and came around to score on a Bryon Jeffcoat double. Castro got his second RBI of the evening with a sharp single to left.
Three Orlando runs in the seventh and two more from the G-Braves in the ninth gave the marathon its final score. Derek Anderson (1-1) got the win for going two effective innings in relief.
