Rays, Mudcats Split Doubleheader

ORLANDO -Orlando used a strong pitching performance from Jim Magrane and a two-run double by Shawn Riggans to win game one of Sunday's doubleheader 2-0 over the Carolina Mudcats in front of 3,820 at Cracker Jack Stadium Sunday.

In the second game of Sunday's twin bill the Mudcats held the Rays hitters to one run on five hits, avoiding the sweep with a 6-1 win.

Fernando Cortez led Orlando offensively with three hits on the afternoon, pushing his Orlando team-high hit streak to 15 games. Jim Magrane (W, 10-6) picked up his team-leading 10th win in the opener after going 6.2 innings, holding Carolina to four hits and two walks, striking out nine.

The Rays and Mudcats close out the 2003 season with a doubleheader tomorrow, with game one starting at 11:35 a.m. and the second game starting approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one. Orlando will send RHP Scott Autrey (5-3, 3.88) to the mound in game one, while Carolina counters with RHP Nic Ungs (2-4, 3.93). Starters for game two will be announced tomorrow.

RAYS NOTES

· Monday's games between the O-Rays and the Mudcats are the final Orlando Rays games at Disney's Wide World of Sports ®complex. The team is moving to Montgomery, Ala., next season to become the Montgomery Biscuits.
