Mobile BayBears News Release

Jackson, Tenn. – The Mobile BayBears dropped their fifth straight game Sunday afternoon as they fell to the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx 7-4. Chris Oxspring took the loss though he pitched better than his numbers show. Oxspring (10-6) threw five innings and allowed six runs on eight hits and struck out two hitters.

"I was pleased with the way Chris threw the ball," BayBears pitching coach Gary Lance said. "He deserved much better than this."

In the second inning the Diamond Jaxx scored three runs off of Oxspring. Mike Dzurilla drove in a run as he hit a high fly ball to center that went off of Todd Donovan's glove for a double. Donnie hood followed with the first inside the park homerun in the history of Pringles Park. He hit a fly ball to the track in leftfield and Joe Gerber lost his footing as he went back on the ball. All the while Hood was rounding the bases, making the West Tenn lead 3-1.

The Diamond Jaxx had Carmen Pignatiello on the mound making his Double-A debut. Pignatiello (1-0) threw six innings, allowing just one run and three hits while striking out 11.

"I was impressed by this guy," BayBears outfielder Vinnie Faison said. "He didn't throw hard but he had two different breaking balls that he could throw for strikes and that worked really well."

The BayBears scored first as Humberto Quintero hit his third homerun of the season, a solo shot in the top of the first inning.

They added another run in the top of the seventh as Danny Bravo, J.J. Furmaniak and Jason Clements hit three straight singles.

Kevin Reinking brought home the final two runs of the game with a two-run, pinch-hit double in the top of the ninth.

The BayBears and Diamond Jaxx will conclude their series and season Monday night at 7:05. Duncan McAdoo (5-8; 4.34) will start for the BayBears against West Tenn's Mike Nannini (10-8; 3.67).
