Mobile, Ala. - Ozzie Martinez collected four hits, including his fifth home run and three RBI, leading the Jacksonville Suns (65-48, 25-18) to an 11-7 win over the Mobile BayBears (60-50, 24-18) in front of 2,050 Sunday at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Todd Doolittle (3-3) took the winning decision after giving up two runs and three hits over two innings of relief. BayBears reliever Bryan Augenstein (0-1) fell in the loss, charged with four runs over a three inning effort.
Martinez opened the scoring in the first inning by driving in Lorenzo Scott with a double for a 1-0 lead. The Suns opened the 4-0 lead in the second inning on a two-out, three-run home run from Lorenzo Scott just over the right field wall.
Mobile answered in the bottom of the second inning against Suns starter Tom Koehler when Sean Coughlin hit a two-out, two-run home run to centerfield, cutting the Suns lead to 4-2. The BayBears made it a 4-3 score when Collin Cowgill hit a leadoff home run in the fourth inning.
In the fifth inning Jacksonville added two runs, a Matt Dominguez RBI single and Lee Mitchell fielder's choice for the 6-3 lead. The BayBears added another run in the bottom of the inning with a two-out single from Ollie Linton for a 6-4 game.
Koehler left the game in line for his 14th win, but Mobile scored twice against Doolittle in the sixth inning to tie the game. With two out, Sean Coughlin singled to left field to bring in two runs for a 6-6 score.
The Suns jumped ahead for good in the seventh inning, scoring four runs against Augenstein. Lorenzo Scott led off with a walk and scored on a Martinez home run for an 8-6 Jacksonville lead. Vinny Rottino next walked and scored on a Matt Dominguez triple for the 9-6 score. Lee Mitchell knocked in Dominguez with a sacrifice fly for a 10-6 score.
A Coughlin sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning and Bryan Byrne throwing error in the top of the ninth inning ended the scoring at 11-7.
