Diamond Jaxx Hang On For 8-7 Win Sunday

JACKSON, TENN. (August 8, 2010) - The Diamond Jaxx (21-23) hold off a late charging Montgomery Biscuit (21-22) squad on Sunday afternoon at Pringles Park, 8-7. Montgomery stranded the game tying run at third base in the ninth. The win moves the series to even at 1-1, with game three on Monday night. The Jaxx improve to 13-9 in one-run games in 2010 and 6-11 against Montgomery.

Steve Bray (7-7) won his second consecutive start on Sunday afternoon. Bray allowed five runs on six hits in seven innings of duty on the mound. Wes Littleton earned the save and got out of a bases loaded jam in the ninth inning. Littleton has two saves now on the season. Justin Garcia (3-3) suffered the loss for the Biscuits in his first start of the season. Garcia allowed five runs on five hits in 3.2 innings.

Joe Dunigan hit a homer and drove in four runs for the Diamond Jaxx on Sunday. Matt Lawson had three singles and was 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Alex Liddi and Nate Tenbrink had a double, RBI and finished 2-for-5 apiece. Rashad Eldrige had three hits for Montgomery and now has five in the first two games of the series. After four hits on Saturday, John Matilia was 2-for-4 on Sunday. Henry Wrigley was 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI's for the Biscuits.

Alex Liddi delivered an RBI double in the bottom of the first inning to bring home Matt Lawson. The Jaxx jumped out to a 1-0 advantage.

The Jaxx added to their lead in the bottom of the second inning. Joe Dunigan blasted a 3-run homer to center. The seventh homer of the season by Dunigan pushed the Jaxx lead to 4-0 in the second inning.

Montgomery cut the lead in half in the top of the fourth inning. Henry Wrigley hit a 2-run homer to left that cut the Jaxx lead to 4-2.

Johan Limonta delivered an RBI double scoring Matt Lawson in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Jaxx went ahead 5-2.

Montgomery rallied and scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning. Mike Folli, Emeel Salem and Rashad Eldridge had RBI's for Montgomery. The Biscuits and Jaxx were tied, 5-5, after the fifth inning.

Guillermo Quiroz drove in Alex Liddi and Nate Tenbrink with a double in the bottom of the seventh inning. Joe Dunigan delivered a sacrifice fly scoring Quiroz and the Jaxx went up 8-5.

Montgomery made another comeback by scoring a run in the eighth and then got an RBI single from Craig Albernaz in the ninth. Montgomery had the bases loaded with nobody out, but got Emeel Salem to ground into a double play, and Rashad Eldridge to fly out to end the game. The Jaxx hung on, 8-7.

With the series even at 1-1, the Jaxx and Biscuits play again on Monday night at Pringles Park, with first pitch at 7:05. Venezualan lefties, Mauricio Robles (6-6, 4-17) for the Jaxx and Alex Torres (9-5, 3.41) for Montgomery will take the mound, On Monday night, Kids and Seniors eat free, with paid admission, presented by Nestle.
