Mississippi Braves News Release
Hoover, AL- After letting game one of a five game series slip through their fingers a night ago, Mississippi comes out and crushes Birmingham game two by the score of 8-1. Jesus Sucre collected three RBI's on a three run home run in the second inning. Altogether, Mississippi scored five times in the second and never looked back. Tim Gustafson earned the win for the Braves and advanced his record to (2-0) against the Barons.Â
In the top of the 2nd inning, Matt Long walked Eric Duncan and Mauro Gomez to start the inning. Jesus Sucre then came up and whacked his 2nd home run of the season. The three-run shot started the inning and was followed by back-to-back singles from Luis Bolivar and Yasser Gomez. Both of those runs ended up score, one on a ground out from Antoan Richardson and the other on a single from Tyler Pasternicky. After the 2nd inning, Mississippi led 5-0.
The Braves added on to that lead three innings later. In the 5th, Tyler Pasternicky walked, stole second and scored on an Eric Duncan double. The Barons got that run back, however, in the bottom of the inning. Birmingham's Eduardo Escobar singled in C.J. Retherford to make the score 6-1, but that would be as close as Birmingham would get. The Braves went on to score two more runs to win the game by the final of 8-1. Jesus Sucre tripled to lead off the 6th and scored on a Luis Bolivar double. Eric Duncan score the final Brave tally in the 7th, thanks to an RBI single from Mauro Gomez. Richard Sullivan and Juan Abreu took over after Gustafson and shut down the Barons the rest of the way.
Tomorrow night at 7:05, the Braves and Barons play game three of the series. The Braves are scheduled to send out RHP Kyle Cofield (1-2; 5.64) against Birmingham's RHP Kyle McCulloch (1-1; 4.50).
