Suns Rally for Win over Mudcats

Jacksonville, Fla. - Matt Dominguez and Bryan Petersen knocked in the sixth inning go-ahead runs while Matt Peterson closed the game with a franchise record-tying 30th save leading the Jacks onville Suns (70-52, 35-17) to a 6-3 victory over the Carolina Mudcats (56-65, 19-33) in front of 5,738 Tuesday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

Suns reliever Levale Speigner (1-1) picked up the victory after two-thirds of an inning. Carolina reliever Zach Ward (0-4) fell in the loss, giving up the first two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Peterson (30) equaled the franchise single-season record for saves (Rick Greene - 1996) by striking out the side in the ninth inning.

Jacksonville opened the scoring without a hit in the first inning. Bryan Petersen led off with a walk and moved to third on a one-out error by Carolina first baseman Logan Parker. Petersen scored on a Mike Stanton sacrifice fly for a 1-0 score.

The Suns extended the lead to 3-0 in the third inning when Lee Mitchell belted a bases loaded double to the left field wall, knocking in a pair of runs.

Carolina finally got to Suns starter Graham Taylor in the sixth inning by scoring on a Sean Henry infield hit, a Carson Kainer bases loaded walk and a Jason Bour sacrifice fly for a 3-3 tie.

Jacksonville countered right away in the bottom of the sixth against reliever Zach Ward. Lee Mitchell led off with a double and later scored on a broken bat double inside the first base bag from Matt Dominguez for a 4-3 lead. Later, Bryan Petersen drove in two runs with a triple to left-centerfield for a 6-3 score.
