JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Suns opened the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville with a team-record crowd of 12,943, but a 1-0 loss to the Huntsville Stars on Friday.
Heath Totten (0-2) earned the loss after allowing one run and four hits over eight innings. The Suns (4-3) managed only three hits against Stars pitching, all singles by Mike Collins.
Huntsville (4-4) scored its run in the fifth inning when Cristian Guerrero doubled home Brandon Gemoll, who doubled earlier in the inning.
The Suns had a baserunner on third base twice in the fourth and fifth innings but a strikeout and a double play ended both Jacksonville threats.
Right-hander Edwin Jackson (0-0, 5.40) will start for the Suns against Stars righty Mike Jones (0-0, 4.91) at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
SUNS SPOTS: The crowd of 12,943 is the fourth-largest in Southern League history. ...Totten's eight innings is the longest outing by a Suns starter this season. ...The Suns combined to strike out 14 times against Stars pitching on Friday.
