Orlando, FL - Orlando Rays outfielder Gabby Martinez was named BC Powder Southern League Hitter of the Week, the league announced Friday.
The 29-year-old Martinez hit .469 with 15 hits over the O-Rays' first seven games. He had at least one hit in all seven of the Rays' games this season and has four multi-hit games to his record. He added three RBI and stolen bases in sparking the Rays to a 4-3 record on their first road trip of the season.
A native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Martinez was signed as a free agent in December 2002. He spent 2002 playing in three different countries: the United States, Puerto Rico, and Taiwan.
