GABBY MARTINEZ â ORLANDO RAYS
Orlando Rays' outfielder Gabby Martinez was named the BC Powder Southern League Hitter of the Week after swinging a hot bat to open the season. Martinez hit .469 (15-for-32), drove in three runs and scored six times. The 29-year-old smacked two doubles and stole two bases in the first week of the AA baseball season. The Tampa Bay Devil Rays selected Martinez in the 27th round of the 2001 draft. He resides in Santurce, PR.

Pitcher of the Week
SEAN FESH â CAROLINA MUDCATS
In an opening week that saw several outstanding pitching performances in the Southern League including a combined no-hitter, Carolina Mudcats' lefthander Sean Fesh was named the BC Powder Southern League Pitcher of the Week. Fesh picked up three wins in seven days, picking up two victories against the Chattanooga Lookouts and one against the Mobile BayBears in relief. For the week, the 30-year-old southpaw surrendered two hits while striking out five and walking one in five innings of work. Fesh has helped the Carolina Mudcats jump out to an East Division leading 6-1 record. The Houston Astros originally selected Fesh in the 61st round of the June 1991 draft. He was signed by the Florida Marlins as a free agent in 2002. Fesh resides in Bethel, CT.
