
BayBears comeback wasted

MOBILE, AL â In front of a sell-out, opening night crowd of 6,164, the BayBears lost to the Greenville Braves, 7-4. BayBears closer, Michael Nicolas, allowed four runs in the top of the ninth inning giving up Mobile's 4-3 lead.
Each team scratched out a single run in their half of the first inning. The score would remain 1-1 entering the seventh.
With two outs in the top of the seventh, Greenville's Richard Lewis hit a two-run homer, giving the G-Braves a 3-1 lead. The BayBears answered with three runs of their own in the bottom half. After a walk and a hit-by-pitch, Alex Fernandez drove in two with a triple to straight away center field. Fernandez would then score on a sacrifice fly.
Entering the ninth, the BayBears held a 4-3 lead. However, Nicolas allowed consecutive singles to begin the frame and following a strikeout, He walked two straight, including one with the bases loaded to tie the score at 4-4. Nicolas then gave up a two-run double and another walk before being lifted, with the BayBears trailing 7-4.
Mobile went quietly in the bottom of the ninth, falling to 1-7 on the season.
NOTES...This was Nicolas's third blown save in four attempts this season...CF Todd Donovan had to be carted off the field after crashing into the center field wall. He was then taken to Springhill Medical Center for X-Rays.
