Suns Lose in Ninth Inning
Published on June 9, 2005 under South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Hagerstown Suns News Release
Gabriel Hernandez pitched another gem, but earned another no decision after the Captains came back to score 4 runs in the top of the ninth inning and won 5-4.
The Suns looked ready to put another game between the Captains and themselves with less than 10 games remaining in the first half, but closer Carlos Muniz issued two walks and allowed 3 hits in his one inning of work and the Suns are now deadlocked with Lexington for first place, and just 2 games up on Lake County.
The Suns offense came slowly, but after two RBI groundouts and an RBI single by Carp, the Suns led by 3 runs. Lake County cut it to one run, but a solo homerun by Psomas in the 8th pushed the lead back up to 3.
That's when the Captains' bats came alive, scoring 4 runs in the 9th to take the lead for the final time.
The Suns and Captains face off again tomorrow at 7:05 as both teams jockey for position in the North Division standings. Stop by or call the Suns offices at 301-791-6266 for tickets. Tomorrow's game is followed by US Cellular Fireworks.
