Hagerstown Suns News Release
LEXINGTON, KY - The Hagerstown Suns (17-20) rallied to defeat the Lexington Legends (14-25) 6-5 in game two of a four game series at Applebee's Park.
The Suns got off on the right foot, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning thanks to the fourth home run of the season for Tim Pahuta. Leadoff hitter Boomer Whiting walked to start the game and three batters later Pahuta hit a fastball over the right field wall to give the Suns a 2-0 lead.
Lexington scored one run in the bottom half of the first inning and added two more in the bottom of the third to take a 3-2 lead.
The lead was short lived, however, as the Suns scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning on four hits and one hit-by-pitch. The Suns also benefitted from two errors by Lexington in the inning.
The Legends answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game 4-4, a score that held until the top of the seventh inning.
In the seventh, the Suns scored twice as Pahuta and Michael Burgess reached and were driven in by Aaron Seuss. Pahuta doubled with one out, and two batters later Burgess was intentionally walked, putting runners at first and second with two outs. Second baseman Jake Smolinski followed with a walk of his own and Seuss singled to give the Suns a 6-4 lead.
Lexington scored once more in the bottom of the eighth inning before Hagerstown's Martin Beno got the last four outs of the game for Hagerstown and earned his fourth save of the season.
Atahualpa Severino (3-2) earned the win for the Suns in relief of starter Bradley Meyer. Severino pitched two and two thirds innings and allowed just one earned run after Meyer lasted five innings and allowed four runs. Beno pitched one and one third scoreless for the save.
The Suns and Legends will play game three of their four game series on Wednesday, May 14th at 10:05 A.M.
The Hagerstown Suns play at Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown, MD and are a Class "A" affiliate of the Washington Nationals.
