August 19, 2015 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Hagerstown Suns News Release

HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Hagerstown Suns (26-26, 61-59) held the Hickory Crawdads (73-47, 29-23) scoreless after the second inning on Wednesday night, and yet they could only muster one inning of offense themselves the entire night as the Suns fell to the Crawdads by a final of 3-2. The victory gives Hickory the win in the series two games to one, and the win in the overall season series seven games to six.

The Crawdads wasted little time getting on the board first in the top of the first inning. With one out 1B Juremi Profar hit a fly ball double to right. Two batters later catcher Jose Trevino brought Profar home from second with a ground ball single up the middle. Trevino then scored all the way from first when the next batter, RF Luke Tendler, hit a double to center field, making it 2-0 Hickory.

The lead increased to 3-0 in the second. Shortstop Michael De Leon hit a two-out line drive double to center field. Second baseman Carlos Arroyo then sent a fly ball single to center, driving in De Leon for the three run advantage. All three Hickory runs in the game were scored with two outs.

Hagerstown picked up both its runs in the fourth. Shortstop Osvaldo Abreu led off with an infield single. He then stole second, and advanced to third on a fly out to left. Abreu scored from third when catcher Raudy Read smacked a double to left, making it a 3-1 game. Read advanced from second to third on a groundout to second. Then, 3B Bryan Mejia beat out an infield hit to first, allowing Read to score from third. That wound up being the last run either team would score in the game.

Both starting pitchers threw deep into the ballgame, and despite delivering a quality start it was Suns starting RHP Justin Amlung (3-2) who got tagged with the loss. He went a season-long seven innings, giving up three earned runs on six hits and one walk while striking out three. Starting RHP Collin Wiles (11-3) earned the win for the Crawdads. He threw six plus innings, giving up two earned runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out two. LHP Shane McCain pitched the final three innings for Hickory to earn his first save of the season.

The Suns had two Major League players, CF Denard Span and 2B Dan Uggla, in the starting lineup on rehab assignment. They each played five innings. Span went two for two with two line drive singles, a walk and a stolen base. Uggla was hitless in two at-bats but drew a walk in his final plate appearance of the night.

The Suns will remain at home and begin a four-game series with the Lexington Legends (19-31, 50-70) starting on Thursday August 20. The Suns will send RHP Jeff Howell (1-0) to the mound for his third start and appearance with the Suns this season. First pitch on Thursday is scheduled for 7:05pm.
