Suns Drop Pair of Contests with Wahoos 12-1, 1-0

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville Suns (13-25, 42-65) were dropped by the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (22-16, 47-59) in a pair of contests 12-1 and 1-0 Tuesday night from Bragan Field.
In game one, Jacob Johnson (W, 4-2) tossed five frames allowing one run (unearned) on no hits while walking and striking out four. Ivan Pinyero (L, 7-6) would take the loss in the start for Jacksonville allowing three runs (all earned) on three hits while walking three and not striking out a batter in a losing decision.
The scoring would begin in the top of the first, after Alex Blandino and Jesse Winker generated a double and a walk respectively, to then score courtesy of Seth Mejias-Brean's two-run double. Pensacola would hold a 2-0 advantage through one inning of play.
Moving to the second frame, Pensacola worked a pair of runners in scoring position for Sal Romano's RBI sacrifice fly to make it a 3-0 contest.
When resuming play on Tuesday night Jesse Winker (HR, 8) laced the first pitch he saw from Suns reliever Casey McCarthy into the bleachers in right field to make it a 4-0 game. Marquez Smith would then draw a four-pitch walk, to then steal second, and move to third on a wild pitch. Two batters later Kyle Skipworth arched a RBI sacrifice fly into center to score Smith, and push their lead to 5-0.
Flashing to the fourth the Wahoos generated three runs courtesy of a Bryson Smith run scoring double and Alex Blandino's (HR, 1) two-run home run over the left field wall to make it an 8-0 ballgame.
To the last of the fifth, David Adams and Ryan Rieger drew a pair of walks to get runners on first and second. A passed ball and throwing error charged to Wahoos catcher Kyle Skipworth, scored Adams, and plated the Suns first run. Jacksonville trailed 8-1 through five frames at Bragan Field.
Pensacola produced two runs in the sixth after Marquez Smith's RBI single and Seth Mejias-Brean's two run double generated a 10-1 scoreboard advantage.
A single and a pair of walks loaded the bases for Pensacola in the ninth. A walk offered up by Suns bullpen arm C.J. Robinson plated a run and pushed the Wahoos lead to 11-1. Next batter Ray Chang, looped a run scoring pinch hit single to now make it 12-1.
The Wahoos bullpen included a hitless effort from left-hander Joel Bender while Miguel Celestino would allow the Suns first hit while not allowing a run in the ninth. Starter Sal Romano twirled two scoreless frames on Monday night before the games suspension.
In game two, Wandy Peralta (W, 7-7) earned the win for Pensacola in his start working five scoreless innings allowing one hit while walking one and striking out five. Matt Tomshaw (L, 5-9) shouldered the loss after generating five and a third frames surrendering one run (earned) on four hits while walking one and striking out six.
The scoring began in game two when Yovan Gonzalez (HR, 2) laced a solo home run to left to put Pensacola up 1-0.
The Suns and Wahoos will continue their series Thursday night with a first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. ET from Bragan Field. The Suns will send out Scott Lyman (0-6, 6.50 ERA) while the Wahoos will send left-hander Cody Reed (1-0, 1.29 ERA) to the hill in the nightcap.
