Jackson Generals News Release

Jackson, Tenn. - Right-handed pitching prospect Edwin Diaz was in line for a victory Tuesday, but the Chattanooga Lookouts came from behind for a 10-3 win at The Ballpark at Jackson. Chattanooga knocked Diaz and the Generals out of a potential victory with eight unanswered runs late in the contest.

Early on, the Lookouts (15-21, 58-46) only managed a pair of unearned runs off Diaz. A passed ball in the second inning allowed Adam Brett Walker II to come home as Chattanooga's run. In the third, a delayed double steal coupled with an error helped Shannon Wilkerson score and increase the lead to 2-0.

The Generals (11-26, 40-65) answered in the third and fifth innings to grab a 3-2 advantage. Jackson tied the game in the third inning with an RBI force out off the bat of Tyler Smith and a sacrifice fly from Dan Paolini. During the bottom of the fifth, Ian Miller roped an RBI double down the left field line that scored Jabari Henry and put the Generals ahead.

Miller's go-ahead double also put Diaz in line for a victory. The right-hander matched a season high with eight strikeouts over five innings pitched, surrendering just two unearned runs along with four walks.

Chattanooga struck back with a five-run rally in the seventh, jumping out to a 7-3 lead. Heiker Meneses led off with a single and scored on a game-tying triple from Kennys Vargas. Wilkerson singled home Vargas to give the Lookouts the lead. Following back-to-back walks, DJ Hicks produced an RBI single that plated Wilkerson. Walker closed the scoring with a two-run double, bringing in Jorge Polanco and Max Kepler.

The Lookouts padded the lead by stretching the lead to 10-3 in the eighth inning. Vargas cleared the right field wall with a leadoff home run to start the eighth. Later in the frame, Hicks and Wickens added RBI singles that pushed Chattanooga's lead to its victorious seven-run margin.

DJ Johnson (1-2) earned his first career Double-A triumph with two scoreless innings of relief. Jackson's Trey Cochran-Gill (3-1) was charged with the loss and all five runs that scored in the seventh after failing to record an out. The Lookouts also took a 2-1 lead in this five-game series with Tuesday's victory.

Coming up next, the Generals host the Lookouts at 7:05 p.m. CT Wednesday at The Ballpark at Jackson. Jackson right-hander Stephen Landazuri (0-3, 4.25) is scheduled to face Chattanooga right-hander Greg Peavey (6-3, 4.41). Fans can listen to the contest on the TJ Network (AM 1390, FM 94.1 and 94.3) starting at 6:50 p.m. CT on the Jackson Generals Pregame Show protected by the Tennessee Army National Guard.
