LEXINGTON, KY - The Hagerstown Suns (16-20) lost the opening game of a four game series with the Lexington Legends (14-24) 7-4 at Applebee's Park on Monday.
The Suns took an early lead when leftfielder Boomer Whiting led off the game with a double, and first baseman Bill Rhinehart singled him home. The RBI was Rhinehart's 39th which leads the South Atlantic League and puts Rhinehart just two behind the overall Minor League leader.
Stephen King and Michael Burgess extended the Suns' lead in the top of the second with back-to-back doubles, giving Hagerstown a 2-0 lead.
Lexington came back with a run of their own in the bottom of the second inning, and added three more in the third, including two runs on a home run by right fielder Russell Dixon.
Hagerstown got one run back in the top of the fifth inning, but would get no closer, as the Legends went on to score single runs in the bottom of the sixth, seventh and eighth innings.
Michael Burgess added a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to make the score 7-4. The home run was the ninth of the season for the Suns right fielder, tying him for the South Atlantic League lead.
