
Jackets Open Road Trip with Win

Rome, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets (21-17) began an eight game road trip with a 2-1 win over the Rome Braves (13-24) on Monday night. Madison Bumgarner recorded the win with six innings pitched and Angel Villalona's solo home run in the fourth inning proved to be the difference in the game.
Augusta took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Francisco Peguero scored from third after Andrew Davis reached on a fielder's choice.
The GreenJackets made it 2-0 in the fourth inning when Villalona led off the half inning with his third home run of the season, a solo homer to left field.
Bumgarner (4-2) worked six innings and allowed one unearned run on five hits, no walks and struck out seven.
Daniel Otero pitched the ninth inning allowing one hit for his eighth save of the season. Otero struck out pinch hitter Cody Johnson to end the game and leaving the tying run on base.
The Braves scored their only run of the game in the fifth inning on a two-out RBI single from C.J. Lee scoring Jon Gilmore from third base.
The GreenJackets and Braves continue their series on Tuesday night with Augusta sending right-hander T.J. Brewer (2-2, 3.86) to the mound. Rome counters with lefty Scott Diamond (3-0, 2.43). First pitch is at 7:00 p.m.
Game Notes:
The GreenJackets improved to 11-5 on the road this season.
Augusta has won five straight games against the Braves
Brock Bond appeared as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning and struck out, ending his 19 game hit streak.
Charlie Culberson finished 2-for-3. Culberson grew up in Rome, GA and played high school baseball at Calhoun High.
The Braves pitching staff retired the final 10 batters in a row for Augusta.
