GREENVILLE, S.C. â The Suns pounded 16 hits in a 7-4 victory Saturday in front of 3,468 fans at Municipal Stadium.
Victor Rodriguez homered to lead off the third inning and the Suns would never look back. Rodriguez had a season-high four hits, backing starting pitcher Heath Totten. Totten (10-9) won his seventh consecutive decision, scattering 11 hits and allowing two runs over six innings. He gave up a two-run home run to Ramon Castro in the third inning.
However, the Suns (55-62 overall, 24-24 second half) gave up 17 hits â at least one in each inning. Greenville stranded 13 baserunners. Braves starter Brett Evert (3-7) earned the loss, allowing five runs and 10 hits over five innings.
Tarrik Brock hit RBI triples in both the fifth and eighth innings, providing important insurance runs for the Suns. Brian Steffek allowed one hit and struck out the side in the ninth inning to record his first save.
Castro and James Jurries each had three hits to lead the Braves (54-60, 18-28).
Right-hander Brian Pilkington will make his first double-A start for the Suns against Braves lefty Chris Waters (3-6, 4.98 ERA) at 5:15 p.m. Sunday at Municipal Stadium.
SUNS SPOTS: RHP Joel Hanrahan, who with 10 wins, 130 strikeouts and a 2.43 ERA are all among the top three leaders in the Southern League, was promoted to Class AAA Las Vegas after the game Saturday. Pilkington will start in his place Sunday. ...Rosters expand to 24 on Sunday. ...The Suns' 16 hits was the third-highest total this season. ...Totten last lost June 22 vs. Orlando.
