Mississippi Braves News Release
GREENVILLE, SC - The Greenville Braves out-hit the visiting Jacksonville Suns 17 to 16, but could only muster four runs as 13 runners were left on base in a 7-4 loss Saturday evening at Greenville Municipal Stadium. Suns starter Heath Totten (10-9) gave up 11 of Greenville's hits but allowed only two runs to score in six innings of work.
The Suns jumped on starter Bret Evert (3-7) for three runs in the third. Victor Rodriguez ripped a solo shot to left, and Tony Socarras followed with a double. Shane Victorino picked up his fifteenth RBI of the year with a single, and Brennan King knocked in Victorino with a two-out hit.
Greenville cut the lead to one in the bottom half of third when James Jurries led off with a single and Ramon Castro cranked a two-out, two-run bomb over the left field signage.
Municipal Stadium showed its age in the fifth as Jacksonville right fielder Tarrik Brock lifted what should have been a routine flyout to center field, but Charles Thomas could not pick up the ball in the 20 year-old, outdated lights. The ball fell a few steps behind Thomas as Nick Theodorou, who had walked, scored and Brock ended up with his first of two triples on the night. Brock would then score on a wild pitch to make it 5-2.
The G-Braves would get runs in the seventh and eighth innings, but they were offset by Jacksonville's two-spot in the top of the eighth.
Jurries and Castro each went 3-5 in the losing effort, and Brian Steffek picked up his first save of the year for the Suns.
