Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
Montgomery, Ala. - There was no doubt in Wednesday's fourth game at Riverwalk Stadium as strong batting and steady pitching led the Jacksonville Suns to a cruising 7-2 victory over the Montgomery Biscuits.
With the win Jacksonville has now won nine of the last ten games, and improves to 8-1 on the current road trip. The Suns also move ahead of second place Montgomery by three and a half games with 16 first half games remaining.
The Suns opened the scoring in the first inning as A.J. Zapp drove home Tony Abreu and Craig Brazell to open a 2-0 lead before Suns pitcher Joel Hanrahan even took the hill.
Hanrahan allowed a leadoff homerun from Elliot Johnson in the first inning to cut the Suns lead to 2-1, but then settled in by retiring the next three men in order.
Jacksonville's offense added two more runs in the third inning. Montgomery native Craig Brazell hit his second homerun of the series and seventh of the season to leadoff and extend the lead to 3-1. Tydus Meadows later singled home Andy LaRoche to open a 4-1 advantage.
Hanrahan allowed another solo homerun from Gabriel Martinez to leadoff the fourth inning that cut the lead to 4-2.
Besides the two solo homeruns, Hanrahan allowed two other hits in his five innings of work. The Iowa native struck out a season-high 10 batters, one short of tying a career high.
Meanwhile, the Suns offense continued to add to the lead as Anthony Raglani recorded a groundout RBI in the fifth inning to make it 5-2. In the seventh inning Tydus Meadows and Anthony Raglani recorded back-to-back solo homeruns to finish the scoring at 7-2.
Montgomery starter Chris Flinn struggled again against Jacksonville as he pitched five innings while allowing five runs on nine hits. The right-hander walked two and struck out one.
Hanrahan improved to 5-2 in the win while Flinn fell to 1-5 in the loss for Montgomery.
Suns left fielder Tydus Meadows finished the game 5-5 with a homerun and two RBI. Craig Brazell was 3-5 with a homerun.
The Suns and Biscuits finish the five-game series Thursday night at 8:05 ET. RHP Spike Lundberg will face Montgomery LHP Jason Cromer. Fans can follow the action on AM 930 The Fox or online at jaxsuns.com or milb.com.
