Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

Jacksonville, FLA - Suns closer Mark Alexander has been named the BC Powder Southern League Pitcher of the Week.

For the week of May 22-28, Alexander recorded four saves and a 0.00 ERA in four appearances last week to earn Pitcher of the Week honors. The right-hander fanned seven of the seventeen hitters he faced while allowing just four hits and not walking a batter.

On May 25 at Huntsville, he came on with the bases loaded and one out in the eighth inning and promptly induced a double-play ball to end the threat, then worked a scoreless ninth to preserve the win. He has been a large part of Jacksonville's recent eight game winning streak, earning the save in five of those games. Alexander has converted 11 of 12 save opportunities this season and has struck out 39 batters while walking just 7. His 11 saves rank fourth in the league.

The 25-year-old Kansas City, MO native was selected in the 20th round of the 2004 draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
