Suns Crush Braves to Even Series

Pearl, Miss. - Logan Morrison finished a triple shy of the cycle, going five-for-six with a grand slam homerun and five RBI in leading the Jacksonville Suns (44-40, 9-5) to a 14-3 Sunday afternoon victory over the Mississippi Braves (37-46, 6-7) in front of 1,556 at Trustmark Park.

Suns starter Aaron Thompson (4-8) picked up the victory, giving up two runs and six hits over six innings of work. Braves starter Richard Sullivan (0-1) fell in the loss in his second Double-A start, charged with six earned runs off six hits with four walks.

Morrison drove in the first run of the day in the first inning on a single to leftfield, bringing home Lorenzo Scott for a 1-0 score. Mississippi tied the game in the third inning on a Matt Young sacrifice fly, tying the score at 1-1.

Jacksonville broke the game open in the fourth inning, scoring seven runs with six hits while sending 12 batters to the plate. Tim Torres tripled home the first run, before Aaron Thompson and Lorenzo Scott each singled home a run for a 4-1 score. Later, Logan Morrison belted an opposite field grand slam homerun, opening an 8-1 lead.

The Suns kept the pressure on in the fifth inning, with a Lorenzo Scott RBI single and Ryan Klosterman two-run homerun opening an 11-1 lead.

Mississippi's Eric Campbell drove in a run with a sixth inning sacrifice fly, cutting the lead to 11-2.

Jacksonville added three more runs in the seventh inning, scoring on a wild pitch, Scott Cousins sacrifice fly and Tim Torres single for a 14-2 score. Mississippi ended the scoring in the ninth inning on a Jason Heyward double for a 14-3 final.
