Zebulon, NC - Two days after turning 22 years-old, Casey Coleman delivered his best performance of the season as Tennessee (8-6) downed Carolina 6-0 in front of 4,954 at Five County Stadium Sunday night.

The right-hander pitched eight shutout innings, and scattered two hits in the process. With the win, Coleman (9-3) now leads the Southern League in wins. He struck out four and walked three.

Tennessee raced out to an early 3-0 lead before the fans even had a chance to find their seats. Nate Samson poked a leadoff single into right field off the Mudcats' starter Tom Cochran (1-2). Tyler Colvin followed with a tremendous blast over the 20-foot right field wall to give the Smokies a two run lead. Marquez Smith continued the onslaught by reaching on a two-base error on Todd Frazier. After Ty Wright struck out, Jim Adduci followed with an RBI-single.

Both squads played through two scoreless innings before the Smokies got to Cochran a second time. Samson stroked a one out single and Colvin doubled. Samson was brought home when Smith again reached on an error, this time from shortstop Zack Cozart. Adduci polished off the scoring with a bases-clearing single.

Marco Carrillo pitched a scoreless inning of relief for the Smokies.

Tennessee returns to Smokies Park on Wednesday to face Montgomery. The Biscuits are the AA-affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays. The series will last four games, spanning July 8-11. Tickets can be purchased at the box office, by calling (865) 286-2300 or by visiting smokiesbaseball.com.
