Carolina Mudcats News Release
Zebulon, NC --- Casey Coleman pitched eight strong innings to become the league's first nine-game winner as Tennessee shutout Carolina 6-0 at Five County Stadium on Sunday night.
Coleman (W, 9-3) surrendered just two singles over eight frames, whiffing four to lead the Smokies (8-6) to their third straight win.
Tennessee touched Carolina starter Tom Cochran for three runs in the first as Tyler Colvin drilled the first of his three extra-base hits, a two-run homer to right for a 2-0 lead. Colvin also pitched in a pair of doubles in his next two at bats. Jim Aducci, who singled home a first inning run, looped a two-run hit in the third as the Mudcats (3-11) fell behind 6-0.
The Mudcats fell behind first-place West Tenn by six games, Carolina's largest deficit the entire season.
The four-game series continues Monday night at 7:15 PM ET with Matthew Klinker (1-0, 3.00) opposing Hung-Wen Chen (4-6, 5.92).
