Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. â Behind home runs by Brennan King and Derek Michaelis, the Suns beat the Tennessee Smokies, 4-2, in front of 4,068 fans Saturday at Smokies Park.
Tied 1-1 in the fourth, King hit his second home run in as many nights, a two-run blast to left field to give the Suns (65-72 overall, 34-34 second half) a 3-1 lead. King had three hits to lead Jacksonville.
Kevan Burns doubled to left center, scoring Caonabo Cosme in the bottom of the fifth, which brought the Smokies to within 3-2. The Suns retaliated quickly, as Michaelis homered to deep right center in the top of the sixth.
Suns closer Jason Frasor loaded the bases with one out, but struck out Cosme and induced a final groundout to Chris Weekly to end the Smokies' threat. Frasor recorded his 17th consecutive save, which eclipses his own Southern League mark.
Suns starter Heath Totten (11-12) earned the victory, pitching six innings and allowing two runs. Elvin Nina and Orlando Rodriguez pitched scoreless innings of relief leading up to Frasor.
Jeremy Cook (0-3) earned the loss in a spot start for the Smokies (71-62, 36-31). Tennessee clinched a playoff spot by virtue of the Carolina Mudcats' loss at Orlando.
Right-hander Brian Pilkington (3-0, 3.60 ERA) is scheduled to face Smokies righty Josh Axelson (4-2, 2.61) at 5 p.m. Sunday at Smokies Park.
