August 30, 2003 - Southern League (SL1)
Huntsville Stars News Release

Huntsville, AL – A pair of Huntsville Stars won major post-season awards, as announced today by the Southern League office. Third baseman Corey Hart, Thursday named to the Year-end All-Star Team, garnered the 2003 Southern League Most Valuable Player Award, and skipper Frank Kremblas won the award for 2003 Southern League Manager of the Year. The awards were determined by a poll of the league's field managers, radio broadcasters and print media.

Hart was named the 2003 Southern League Most Valuable Player for an exemplary season that included selection to both the mid-season and year-end all-star teams. Hart has been an instrumental part of a Stars team that won the Western Division first half title by seven games and had been in the hunt for the second half title. With four games remaining in the regular season, Hart paces the Southern League in RBI (90) hits (144), and doubles (36). The 6-foot-6 third baseman ranks third in the league in extra-base hits (50) and fifth in batting (.303). Just 21 years old, Hart was a Western Division starter in the 2003 Southern League All-Star Game and won the BC Powder Southern League Hitter of the Week July 25-31. Hart is ranked by Baseball America as the No. 5 prospect in the Milwaukee Brewers' organization.

Kremblas was named the 2003 Southern League Manager of the Year after guiding the Huntsville Stars to the Western Division first half championship, clinched in Birmingham with four games left in the half. In his second season managing the Stars, Kremblas has mentored a young team full of future Milwaukee Brewers. This is Kremblas' fourth season in the Milwaukee organization. Before joining the Brewers, Kremblas was in the Montreal Expos' system from 1997 to 1999. Drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in 1989 after an outstanding collegiate career at Eastern Kentucky University, Kremblas played in the minors for eight years, topping out at AAA Louisville in 1996.

The Stars conclude their regular season schedule in Chattanooga. In Saturday's game two of a four-game series, Huntsville sends righty Greg Bruso (0-1, 4.50) against Chattanooga right-hander Josh Hall (8-9,3.26).

Huntsville returns home for Games 1 and 2 of the Western Division Championship Series against the Barons on September 3rd and 4th. Game time each night 6:05 p.m. Game one will have a fireworks show following the game, courtesy of Woody Anderson Ford, and game two features a Stars t-shirt giveaway for the first 1200 fans through the gate. For tickets, call the Stars at (256) 882-2562 or stop by the office at Joe Davis Stadium.
