Sundogs Sign D-Man Turcotte, Waive Nesdill

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - Arizona Sundogs Head Coach and General Manager Marco Pietroniro announced today the team has signed rookie d-man Yan Turcotte (pronounced YAHN TUHR-kaht) and has waived defenseman Mike Nesdill.

Turcotte, 26, joins the Sundogs after a five-year career at McGill University (CIS) in Montreal, Quebec. In 119 career games, the native of Laval, Quebec totaled 15 goals, 38 assists and a school-record 471 penalty minutes (PIM).

The 6-foot, 215-pound blue liner served as team captain in 2009-10, leading the team to a Canadian Interuniversity Sport Championship with 25 points in 27 games. He led the team with 120 penalty minutes and finished first among McGill defensemen with nine goals.

Prior to skating collegiately, Turcotte spent three seasons playing junior hockey in Quebec. In 101 contests over two seasons with the Quebec Remparts and Montreal Rocket of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), he recorded 13 points (4g/9a) and 201 PIM.

Nesdill appeared in 66 career games with the Sundogs in just over a season, collecting two goals, 14 assists, 109 PIM and a minus-12 rating.
