Arizona Sundogs News Release


The Arizona Sundogs (23-32-6) will close out the 2009-10 regular season with their final three home games against the Colorado Eagles beginning Wednesday at 7:05pm at Tim's Toyota Center.

Arizona completed its final road trip of the season with a 4-3 shootout win over the Corpus Christi IceRays on March 9 before back-to-back losses against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees and Laredo Bucks March 11 and 13 to finish above .500 for the second time in franchise history.

The Sundogs were eliminated from playoff contention with a 4-1 Corpus Christi win over Laredo on March 10.

Sundogs Storylines:

- Doug Groenestege saw his streak of 14 consecutive starts in net for Arizona come to an end on Saturday, March 13 against the Laredo Bucks as J.F. Perras made his first start since a December 13th injury sidelined him for three months. Groenestege went 8-5-1 in the 14-game span. The third-year-pro out of Stratford, Ontario is 18-13-4 on the year with a league-leading three shutouts. The netminder remains a perfect 8-0 in shootouts this season with a 4-3 shootout win over the IceRays on March 9.

- Arizona is playing.500 hockey since January (14-14-3). The Sundogs were 9-18-3 in October, November and December.

- Kyle Hood has taken over the team scoring lead from Konrad Reeder with 52 points (14g/38) and is currently riding a seven-game points streak that has seen him collect 11 points (3g/8a).

- Rookie forward Joey Sides had a six-game point streak snapped in a 5-3 loss to the Bucks on March 13. The first-year forward collected five goals, four assists and a plus-7 rating during his most recent streak. The Sun Valley, Idaho, native leads the team in plus/minus with a plus-8 rating and ranks fourth among rookie scorers in the CHL with 35 points (16g/19a).

- Linus Fagemo co-leads the team in goals with Konrad Reeder (23). Fagemo has collected four goals and seven points and is plus-6 in his last six games.

- Marc Belanger has tallied six points (1g/5a) in his last seven games.

- Rob Lehtinen has three goals in his last five games.
