UNCASVILLE, CT. (March 1, 2006) - The Connecticut Sun announced Wednesday it has signed point guards Jen Derevjanik and Jamie Carey.
As per team policy, no terms were released.
Derevjanik, a 5-foot-10 guard who has spent the past two seasons with the Sun, played significant minutes during last year's WNBA Finals after starter Lindsay Whalen was injured. She had a career-high four assists in Game 2 of the WNBA Finals, when she made her first career postseason start. In eight playoff games last season, Derevjanik had six points, 14 assists and five steals.
Carey, a 5-6 guard out of the University of Texas, had 18 points and seven assists in 15 regular season games for the Sun as a rookie last year. In six playoff games, Carey had five points, seven assists and two steals. She played with the Colorado Chill of the NWBL this past offseason, averaging 12.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists in three games.
