Sauget, IL - The Gateway Grizzlies got a dominant start on the mound from Collin Sullivan (5-2), and scored five runs in the first inning to take control of the game immediately in a 10-4 victory over the Washington Wild Things on Saturday night at Grizzlies Ballpark.

Things began right away for Gateway in the bottom of the first against rookie right-hander Trent Dewyer (0-1), as Gabe Holt hit his first professional pitch down the right field line for a double. Three batters later, Peter Zimmermann also swung at the first pitch he saw, and cracked a three-run home run over the left field fence to put the Grizzlies up 3-0. Gateway continued in the inning to send 11 total batters to the plate and score two more runs on RBIs by Abdiel Diaz and Eric Rivera, knocking Dewyer out of the game and taking a 5-0 lead.

The Grizzlies added to their lead with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings on RBI hits by Zach Racusin and Holt, jumping out to a 7-0 advantage before completing their scoring in the bottom of the eighth on a three-run homer by Racusin, with the veteran outfielder upping his RBI total to seven in his first two games back with the club as Gateway took a 10-0 lead.

Washington scored all of their runs in the top of the ninth inning, but the game was out of reach thanks to Sullivan, who tossed seven innings of three-hit, shutout ball with one walk and 10 strikeouts, throwing 70 of his 106 pitches for strikes in earning his team-leading fifth win of the season, and leading Gateway to their third-straight win overall.

Gateway amassed 15 hits on offense in the game, with every batter in the lineup finishing with at least one, giving them 28 in the first two contests against the Wild Things on the weekend. Zimmermann and Racusin combined for seven RBIs as well, with the Grizzlies making five of their hits extra-base knocks.

The Grizzlies will seek a three-game sweep of the Wild Things in the series finale on Sunday, June 25, at 5:45 p.m. CT. Zac Ryan will take the ball for Gateway against Washington's Hayden Shenefield at Grizzlies Ballpark.
