Sugar Land Drops Game Two 9-3 against Long Island

The Skeeters fell 9-3 in Game 2 of a three-game series against the Ducks tonight at Bethpage Ballpark. With the loss tonight, Sugar Land is now 2-9 against Long Island so far this season, 39-33 overall in 2014.

Sean Gallagher (4.1,6,6,6,1,2) took the hill for the Skeeters in Game 2 tonight for his third start since joining the team last month. The righty threw 4.1 innings and allowed six runs on six hits with two strikeouts before receiving the loss.

Catcher Danny Lehmann (1x3, 2 R) led off the top of the third inning with a double toleft field followed by left fielder Ryan Langerhans (1x3), who was walked. Center fielder Adam Godwin (2x5)then loaded up the bags with a single to the pitcher after beating out the throw to first. Two batters later, right fielder Brian Barton (0x2, RBI) sacrificed a fly ball to the Ducks center fielder that allowed Lehmann to cross the plate for the first run of the game.

After coming into the game for Barton in the top of the eighth, Neil Medchill (1x1, R, RBI) hit his third home run of the season for the second run of the outing.

Both Langerhans and Lehmann reached base with a walk in the top of the ninth inning. Second baseman Delwyn Young (1x5, R) then laced a single into center field, which allowed Lehmann to record the third and final Skeeter run of the game.

Ramon Delgado (1.2,2,1,1,2,0) came in to relieve Gallagher with one out in the fifth and tossed 1.2 innings and allowed one run on two hits. Lefty Cory VanAllen (1.0,3,2,2,0,0) pitched the seventh inning and allowed two runs on three hits before the end of his frame. Brian Broderick (1.0,0,0,0,0,0) threw the eighth inning and did not give up a run or a hit.

On the Road Again:

Sugar Land looks to collect their first win of the series against the Ducks tomorrow night in the final game of the series tomorrow night with a start time set for 6:05 p.m. CT. Matt Wright (6-6, 3.47 ERA) will take the mound to start Game 3 as the team hopes to avoid a shutout on the road at Long Island.
