
Bridgeport Uses the Long Ball to Defeat Blue Crabs

(Bridgeport, Conn. - July 8, 2014) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (2-0, 24-48) defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (0-3, 29-44), 7-2 on Tuesday night at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
Southern Maryland scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning on a solo home run by former Bluefish Steve Moss. Bridgeport answered when they got on the board with their first hit of the game, a solo home run by Prentice Redman in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Bluefish then added two runs in the bottom of the seventh on a pair of a solo home runs by Denny Almonte and Austin Gallagher. In the top of the eighth innings, Blue Crabs second baseman Amadeo Zazueta hit a solo home run of his own to cut the lead to one. After a Luis Lopez RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning gave Bridgeport a two run lead, Almonte then hit his second homer of the night, a three run dinger to put the 'Fish ahead by five.
Bridgeport starting pitcher Hunter Jones (4-7) picked up the win going seven and two-thirds innings, allowing six hits, two runs with zero walks and three strikeouts. Blue Crabs starting pitcher Gabriel Hernandez (3-5) suffered the loss going seven innings allowing three runs on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts.
For the Bluefish, Almonte led the way going 2-for-3 with two home runs, two runs scored, four RBI and a walk.
Bridgeport and the Blue Crabs will play the final game of their three game series tomorrow morning with a special early start for camp day with the first pitch scheduled for 11:00 a.m. It's the first and only Camp Day of the year at Harbor Yard.
