
Sudbury Defeats the Rangers 7-5 in a Comeback

Kitchener Rangers News Release
Kitchener went up 4-1 early in the contest and eventually 5-2 thanks to Carson Rehkopf's third hat trick of the season. However, Sudbury rallied back including four unanswered goals to win the game 7-5.
Rehkopf picked up right where he left off before attending the World Junior Championship with a hat trick and an assist tonight, which makes for eight goals and six assists over his last six games played. Hunter Brzustewicz's hot streak also lives on as he extended his point streak to seven games with a goal and an assist in the game.

1:36 Andre Anania (4) - Landon McCallum, Alex Pharand
Sudbury scored the first goal of the game early from a nice passing play that set Andre Anania up in the high slot. Alex Pharand tucked a pass around Cameron Reid to Landon McCallum. McCallum sent a backhand touch pass to Anania who walked into the high slot. He sent a shot glove side and beat Jackson Parsons to give Sudbury the early one-goal lead.

4:03 Carson Rehkopf (32) - Trent Swick, Luke Ellinas
Carson Rehkopf scored his first of the night to tie the game up at one. Luke Ellinas found the rebound behind the net and poked it out front to Trent Swick. Swick quickly sent a pass up to the slot where Rehkopf was ready to one-time it past former Rangers goaltender Marcus Vandenberg.

7:25 Hunter Brzustewicz (8) - Kyle Morey
Hunter Brzustewicz picked a pass off in the neutral zone and found himself, Adrian Misaljevic and Kyle Morey on a three-on-none. Brzustewicz passed the puck across the ice to Morey, who sent it right back to him to tap it in, giving the Rangers the lead.

7:43 Carson Rehkopf (33) - Luke Ellinas, Carson Campbell
Carson Rehkopf scored Kitchener's third unanswered goal of the period to give the Blueshirts a two-goal lead. Luke Ellinas received the puck in the low corner and skated it up along the boards. He sent a pass to the slot where Rehkopf used a deceptive wrist shot to place the puck top corner blocker side.

Matthew Sop had no trouble putting the Rangers up four in the first period thanks to a nifty cross-ice pass from Adrian Misaljevic. Kocha Delic took a holding penalty at 15:28 leading to the powerplay marker. Misaljevic held the puck in the Wolves zone. He then sent a pass across the ice through traffic to Sop who slid the puck past and diving Marcus Vandenberg.
2nd Period
SBY 2, KIT 4
5:35 Kieron Walton (15) - Evan Konven, Alex Pharand - PPG
Sudbury cut the lead down to two with a powerplay goal by Kieron Walton. The powerplay was due to a high-sticking penalty assessed to Matthew Andonovski at 3:57. Evan Konyen had a shot blocked which was found by Walton who put it in off his backhand from the side of the net.

8:59 Carson Rehkopf (34) - Adrian Misaljevic, Hunter Brzustewicz - PPG
Carson Rehkopf roofed his third goal of the game on the powerplay. Owen Protz took a boarding penalty at 7:28 which gave Kitchener the power play. Hunter Brzustewicz sent the puck down to the glove side faceoff circle where Adrian Misaljevic was set up. He sent the puck cross-ice to Rehkopf who rifled it home for his third goal in his return game from the World Junior Championship.

Sudbury fought back to be just down two off a defensive zone giveaway. Landon McCallum picked off the pass right in front of Jackson Parsons and scored glove side.
3rd Period

5:06 David Goyette (20) - Andre Anania, Kocha Delic
Sustained pressure by Sudbury led to David Goyette scoring to bring the game to within one. Kocha Delic sent it across the ice to Andre Anania who put a hard pass on the stick of Goyette back across and down to the side of the net. Goyette then sent it to the back of the net to score his 20th of the season.

8:36 David Goyette (21) - Kocha Delic, Quentin Musty
Sudbury tied the game up on their third straight goal as David Goyette scored his second goal of the game. Quentin Musty flipped the puck into the air and the puck landed on Kocha Delic's stick who set up Goyette to tie the game.

Sudbury willed their way to their fourth unanswered goal and the lead as Quentin Musty drove toward the net before firing off two shots both saved by Jackson Parsons. The second rebound came out to Kocha Delic who finally put it past Parsons and put Sudbury up for the first time since 15:57 remained in the first period.

19:37 Alex Pharand (9) - ENG
The Wolves put the icing on the cake with an empty net goal by Alex Pharand with 23 seconds remaining. Pharand sent the puck in from behind the centre red line to put the game to rest.

The Goalies:
Sudbury swapped goalies after the first period where Marcus Vandenberg gave up four goals on ten shots. Nate Krawchuk finished the game for Sudbury making 13 saves on 14 shots. With the win his record will move to 5-4-0-0 on the season. Jackson Parsons got the start for the Rangers, he made 23 saves on 29 shots in the loss. His season record moved to 17-8-1-0.

Up Next: Kitchener travels to North Bay tomorrow before they head home for a weekend of home games. The Rangers will play the Erie Otters at the Aud on Friday, January 12th for the fourth time this season. The Rangers have won all three games this season against the Otters.
