GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Suns' pitching thwarted the Greenville Braves' strong hitting attack in a 6-1 victory Friday in front of 3,596 fans at Municipal Stadium.

Suns starter Eric Stults (3-4) allowed one run over six innings to earn his first victory since April 23. Stults gave the Suns (18-22) its first lead when he doubled the opposite way, scoring Tony Socarras in the third inning.

Victor Diaz hit a two-run home run – his first of the year – in the fourth inning off Braves starter Bubba Nelson to give the Suns a 3-1 lead. Nelson (3-3) earned the loss, allowing three runs over seven innings. Diaz went 3-for-3 in the game and has 11 hits in his last 16 at bats.

Nick Alvarez singled in Tarrik Brock in the eighth inning to pad the Suns' advantage. Reggie Abercrombie hit a two-run home run – his sixth of the year – off Josh Tillery in the ninth inning to cap the scoring.

Suns relievers Steve Langone and Scott Proctor kept the lead in tact. The Braves did not have a hit from the fourth until the ninth when pinch-hitter Pete Orr collected Greenville's first extra-base hit, a double off Proctor.

Every Suns starter had at least one hit. Alvarez and Jason Repko each had two.

James Jurries had two hits to lead the Braves (18-22).

Suns right-hander Joel Hanrahan (4-1, 2.59 ERA) is scheduled to face Braves righty Roman Colon (3-1, 3.89) at 7:15 p.m. Saturday at Municipal Stadium.
